Weekly update, September 20, 2015

The weather was gloriously rainy and cool for the first half of the week, so I spent most of Tuesday cooking and baking.
I made sunflower granola bars so Isaac can have them at school.  He sits at the allergy table during lunch and can't bring anything with nuts in them, so these use sunflower butter and chocolate-covered sunflower seeds.  I decided to bring my Maxine's Kitchen business out of maternity leave and posted these for sale.  They sold so well I had to whip up another batch that same day!

I also made these Taiwanese scallion pancakes, which I've been craving since I was pregnant.  It was my first time making them and I thought they turned out rather well.

As of Wednesday-ish, Daisy has started waking up from some naps and in the mornings cooing and smiling a ton.  She's also discovered her hands and sucks on them once she's busted out of her swaddle, which she does just about every time now.

Sometimes I feel bad for babies because they're subjected to all kinds of indignities from their parents.  Here's the latest one: Being stuffed into a fuzzy bear suit and made to take tons of pictures until she just couldn't take it anymore.  And then she passed out on the couch and slept for 3 hours.
Saturday evening we went to the State Capitol to welcome Grandpa Mann home from his 3-day visit to Washington DC as part of the Utah Honor Flight program, which flies WWII veterans to the nation's capital to visit the war memorials and to be honored for their service. A local news station covered the event and quoted him saying, "I flew 35 missions over Germany.  I lived through all of them and I got wounded in one but it was worth it." Their shuttle bus was accompanied by police escort and a sizable motorcade, after which they were wheeled into the Capitol building to a rousing (rowdy?) reception.  Thank you for your service to our country, Grandpa!  We are so proud of you!!

The kids did really well waiting for the veterans to arrive, and they really loved holding up their signs.  They even did great sitting quietly through the ceremony afterward.
Sunday afternoon we drove up to Cascade Springs for a little nature walk.  It was a long drive up the mountain on narrow, windy roads, but the scenery was beautiful and the walk at our destination was worth it.  The kids had a blast doing what else but throwing leaves into the pools and watching them move down the mini-waterfalls.

It's starting to become tradition for Sammy to fall in water whenever there is some.  This time his foot slipped in one of the pools and got mildly wet, but that sort of ruined it for him.
Isaac and Ellie had a blast, though.
In fact, Ellie had so much fun that we got several cute poses, a t-rex walk, and a meme out of her!
It was a pretty great week!  Next week is Ellie's birthday and our 9th wedding anniversary, so it should be all kinds of exciting!
